The history of Grovenor Resources Zambia Limited starts with the first base metals mining operations set up in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2006 by Mr. John Kalenga and his investment partners. The partners formed M&J Investments SPRL (M&J) in DR Congo in a bid to acquire mining concessions for identified
opportunities for Copper and Cobalt.
The partners had previously engaged in trading activities of these metals from DR Congo.

Mr. M. D. Vakharia is Chairman and co-founder of Grovenor Resources Zambia Limited. Mr. Vakharia is a British national born in 1952 in a trading family in Aden, South Yemen. The Vakharia family have been trading in general goods over generations in the Middle-East, North Africa and the Indian sub-continent. During the 1970s and 1980s Mr. Vakharia branched off from the family businesses to set up his own trading outpost in Dubai where he continued his family’s business tradition trading in general consumer goods and bulk commodities to new export markets supplying East Africa and continuing on to Zambia and what was then Zaire, now DR Congo. In 1992 Mr. Vakharia opened a branch for his business in Zambia that was incorporated as Vacko Marketing Ltd to handle sales and distribution of products exported from his Dubai operations. Vacko Marketing divested its operations from Zambia when the South African chain stores began to make their inroads into the Zambian market at the dawn of the millennium. At this point Mr. Vakharia relocated to South Africa where he has continued to invest in high-end commercial and residential property development and in mining investments in Southern Africa through Grovenor Resources.

Mr. John Kalenga is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Grovenor Resources Zambia Limited. Mr. Kalenga was born in 1969 into an entrepreneurial family. His family owned and run Union Bank Zambia in the 1980s and 1990s one of only few locally owned banks licenced to operate in Zambia. The family had the original business franchises in Zambia for Motorola and for Bic, the French manufacturer of pens in the 1970s and 80s and has owned commercial and residential properties in prime areas of Lusaka. Mr. Kalenga did his studies in business management in the United Kingdom and upon his return to Zambia in the mid 1990’s started running sections of his family’s business that were entrusted to him. Mr. Kalenga later branched off from the family enterprises to set up his own company initially dealing in importation of confectionery for the Zambian market from his UK connections. The business grew rapidly into a formidable enterprise when he established himself as key supplier for these products to supermarket chains in Zambia. Over a period of time Mr. Kalenga was the only one trading in confectioneries and candy out of Europe into Zambia surviving against formidable competition from major South African exporters. Mr. Kalenga’s trading activities under Agrid Zambia Ltd a company he formed in the 1990's expanded to agricultural commodities, maize and fertilizers on the Zambian and DR Congo market. Agrid Zambia was also appointed as authorized dealers for supply and after- sales service of the “AGRIKIT” farm machinery and implements developed in the UK for use by small farmer’s groups supported by the Zambian government and farmer cooperatives. Agrid Zambia eventually found exposure and exploited opportunities for trading in high grade mineral ores from the Democratic Republic of Congo to supply to smelters in Zambia. Mr. Kalenga’s experience and exposure in successful dealings in the mining industry led subsequently to setting up of Grovenor Resources Zambia with his business partner and associate, Mr. Vakharia.
